Sonar User Guide

Introduction

It's easy to plugin a network analyser, start a capture and before we know it we have several million packets.  The challenge is to find the key packets; those that show the cause of the problem we are investigating.  What if there were a way to mark the trace data at the moment the problem occurred?

TribeLab Sonar provides a simple way to generate packets that can be easily found in a trace.  The tool runs in any browser and is started via a URL on the TribeLab site. The following 15-second video shows the tool in action together with the packets generated.

The markers can be targeted at any service - it doesn't even have to be a web server.

This guide describes how Sonar works, when to use it and how to use the full range of input parameters.
