Workbench 0.18 User Guide

User Interface (UI)

Layout

The UI allows an analyst to lay out the Workbench panels in his or her preferred positions; this includes moving individual panels to separate monitors.

Above is the default layout.  Any of the panels can be relocated.  Let’s look at how we can relocate the Toolbox to the right of the window.

Start by right clicking on the Toolbox panel header and choosing the Floating option.  The Toolbox is undocked and moves to the top left corner of the current monitor.

Now right click again and choose Dockable.  Position the mouse pointer above the title bar of the Toolbox pane and hold down the left mouse key.  Drag the pane to the centre of the Workflow pane.

A docking position widget appears offering six possible positions:

  • Above the Workflow
  • Below the Workflow
  • On the left of the Workflow
  • On the right of the Workflow
  • Overlaying the Workflow (centre position)
  • To the right of the Workflow and Transformers

Still holding the mouse left button down, move the cursor above the centre position.  The Workflow is highlighted in pale transparent blue.  Now release the mouse left button.

The Toolbox immediately docks into the position previously occupied by the Workflow.  The Workflow panel is still accessible.

At the bottom of the Toolbox panel you’ll notice that we now have two tabs; Workflow and Toolbox.  Click on these to switch between Toolbox and Workflow.

A panel can be closed by clicking on the X in the top right corner.  To display a panel again, simply click on View in the main menu and choose the panel to display.  The Workbench layout is automatically saved on exit.
