Managing Data Types

Creating a New Data Type

We add a new data type via the View -> Object Explorer Type Window which brings up the Object Explorer Types dialogue box.  This dialogue box can be used to add or edit Object Explorer data types.

With the Mode set to Add:

  • Enter details of the new data type in the fields provided
  • Click Add – the new type will appear in the list to the left
  • Close the dialogue by clicking on the small x in the top right of the window

The new data type is now ready for use.

Renaming a Data Type

To permanently rename a data type we need to use the Object Explorer Type Window.  Click on View -> Object Explorer Type Window and change the Mode to Edit, then:

  • Click on the data type
  • Make any changes to the Type Details fields as needed
  • Click Save
  • Close the dialogue

In this example, the name of the data type has been changed from Video to Video and Audio.

Adding a File Extension to a Data Type

To add a file extension to a data type we use the Object Explorer Type Window.  Click on View -> Object Explorer Type Window and change the Mode to Edit, then:

  • Click on the data type
  • Make any changes to the Type Details fields as needed
  • Click Save
  • Close the dialogue

In this example, we have added the file extension mp3 to the Video and Audio data type.
