Workbench 0.18 User Guide

Configuration Options

The configuration options are accessed via the main menu item Tools -> Options:

Configuration dialogue

The options are grouped into those relating to the environment, and those related to specific operations.  The meanings are as follows:

Environment – General
Parameter Value

Project Location

The root location for all workspaces

Auto Save Enabled

This check box enables the automatic periodic saving of the current workspace.

Interval (minutes)

When auto save is enabled, the workspace will be automatically saved after this period.

Parallel file scan limit

When using utilities and Native Tools, on occasions Workbench automatically scans selected files.  To reduce the time needed for the scans, Workbench uses multithreading to perform scans in parallel.  This parameter sets the number of scans that run in parallel.

Parallel filter on directory limit

When filtering multiple files, Workbench uses multithreading to perform filter operations in parallel.  This parameter sets the number of filters that run in parallel.

Parallel dedup file limit

When de-duplicating multiple files, Workbench uses multithreading to perform dedup operations in parallel.  This parameter sets the number of dedups that run in parallel.

Show Quick Select tree on desktop

When checked, a list of file types appears on the desktop.

Auto position operation results in Object Explorer

When checked, the output data from various tools, such as Filter, is automatically added to the workspace in the Object Explorer.

Auto open Workspace after import

When checked, an imported workspace will automatically open in the Object Explorer.

Environment – Workflow
Parameter Value

Username

The userid or email address for your TribeLab Community website account which is used for Workflow access

Password

The password for your TribeLab Community website account which is used for Workflow access

Environment – Logging
Parameter Value

Workbench logging enabled

Enables detailed diagnostic logging for Workbench.  There is a minor performance impact when using this facility and the logs can grow quite large over time.  Therefore, don’t activate this log unless asked to do so by the Workbench support team.

Logging location

The directory where the Workbench log files will be recorded.  Click the adjacent button to browse to a new location.

Operations – Matcher
Parameter Value

Match operation extraction thread limit

Matcher runs on multiple threads.  This setting limits the number of concurrent threads and so the occupancy of CPUs on your computer.

Match key uniqueness threshold %

Matcher assesses the uniqueness of the match run, and if that uniqueness does not reach this threshold it will display a warning.

Show the post match summary screen

When checked, prior to displaying the Match Grid, Matcher display summary statistics from the run.

Operations – Marker Find
Parameter Value
Parallel trace marker search limit When searching multiple files for markers, Workbench uses multithreading to perform marker find operations in parallel.  This parameter sets the number of marker finds that run in parallel.

Trace Marker Ping Length Range - Min

The Marker Find tool will look for pings with a data length of at least this number of bytes.
Trace Marker Ping Length Range - Max The Marker Find tool will look for pings with a data length with no more than this number of bytes.

Operations – Syncro
Parameter Value
Log Syncro TCP activity to event log When checked, Syncro data flows between Workbench and the Syncro plugin in Wireshark are recorded in the Windows Application Event Log.
Wireshark global preferences location: Workbench Matcher needs to obtain certain Wireshark preferences for the Syncro plugin (protocol).
Wireshark profiles location:
Wireshark recent common configuration location:
Wireshark global plugins location: This is the location where the syncro.dll module is saved.
Wireshark versioned plugins location: This is the location where all built-in plugins are located.
Falback to global preferences: When checked, ...
